I love stories, be they told in film, literature, or music. My favorites are historical, or fantastical. Dissecting things that have happened, or could. Dystopias really get me excited.
Some of my favorite stories are Hunger Games, Chaos Walking, The Hour, Vampire Diaries, Parks and Recreation, Doctor Who, Veronica Mars, and Star Trek.

Don’t do that.
Should anyone want a summary of Damon, or a condensed, couple-minute summary of Damon and Elena’s relationship - right down to him threatening and physically abusing her to stop defending herself and her right to her own body - this would be the place to go.
Damon’s relationships with women are extremely consistent. Even with the vampire women he’s had relationships with, who physically overpower him, he attempts to force himself on (Katherine) or attack and physically cow (Rose) either before he knows or before he remembers they’re stronger. (Once a woman has shown she can fight him off, of course, he pretty much leaves right off, because he’s a bully, coward and abuser.)
One might even call it a clever process; he’s a very methodical and calculated abuser. He isolates them from their support, he mocks them from their pain and tells them - if he can, with magical coersion - that their suffering is hysteria, that what he did to them is trivial and meaningless and derides and sneers at them for trying to protect themselves, get away from him, or let themselves have a healthy emotional response to his abuse. He punishes them more and more viciously and violently for fighting back until eventually they give up; he gives copious explicit and implied threats, he is constantly sexually threatening and intrusive, wielding a very deliberate and conscious threat of rape (there’s really no other way to interpret Damon - an explicitly misogynistic abuser whose main theme in his relationships has been silencing and dehumanizing women - crowding in close to his rape victims and to women who repeatedly, again and again, ask him to leave them alone and stop making sexual advances, often physically hurting them in the process of invading their personal space) and, of course, he constantly, constantly, keeps telling them that what he does to them isn’t wrong, that it’s natural, that they’re crazy or “playing a game” when they ask, beg, scream for him to not hurt them any more.
The really tragic thing isn’t even that one after another, multiple female characters have been shown to break and bend under these pressures, with insufficient support systems and even their loved ones collaborating with and supporting him.
The really tragic thing is that the staff, producers and writers of the Vampire Diaries show support him.

I used to like Damon, later in season one/into season two when it appeared for a time that he was seriously searching for redemption. But then I realized that lol no he wasn’t. He may vaguely ‘want to be more human’ but he has never shown remorse for his rape and abuse of Caroline, and and has consistently lashed out in abuse after several episodes of appearing more sympathetic. That is the cycle of abuse and it is how abusers control people in real life and it’s disgusting that no one in the production notices or cares.

"You’ve got a girl who just sorta lost her last adult living family member when Aunt Jenna died last year, so when we started this season, what we really wanted to do was begin this relationship with Alaric as her guardian and mentor, and then tear that away from her at the end leaving her and her brother with nobody"

  4. My WORD what even has this show turned into?

aka my thoughts on The Vampire Diaries season 3 finale and what’s to come in season 4…

    SPOILERS

Most importantly Elena has never desired to be a vampire. She has been shown to put a huge amount of thought into the decision and has been firm in her stance to stay human. When Stefan tried to force her to change earlier in the season it was violent and horrific and akin to a rape scene. Elena chose to have Matt saved rather than herself, but Meredith had previously chosen, without consulting anyone (even though she knew Elena was constantly in peril) to pump Elena with vampire blood. All of this is out of Elena’s control, and in direct contrast with any choice or decision she has ever made. And we’re supposed to be happy.

Oh look, Tyler’s character was just completely erased. That’s cool. And it’s so obvious how this is going to turn out, either Klaus will pretend to be Tyler and will thus get into Caroline’s pants, or he will manipulate her broken heart with ‘~but I look like your lost love’ and will thus get into Caroline’s pants. Either way Klaus is definitely going to manipulate Caroline and possibly rape her. So we have that to look forward to.

When a series timeline gets re-written years later (think Lost with Nikki and Paulo, Veronica Mars’ season two finale changing the season one finale, or tonight’s pre-series Damon/Elena scene) I just laugh because they think we will actually accept it as cannon. Make up your mind before you publish something.

lol at Julie Plec giving her bff Matthew Davis a kinder send off than any of the other 100000 dead characters on this show have ever gotten.

And finally, thanks for not telling us whether or not Matty is alive. He’s not important enough to the writers for that to have been a cliffhanger. They just forgot to tell us.

Elena hasn’t chosen, not really. This is actually where the REAL love triangle begins, as her vampire side craves Damon and his danger, and her human side craves Stefan and his stability. She’s going to be very conflicted next season, with heightened emotions, and it’s going to be filled with all kinds of UST.

Also, please remember that ALL of Elena’s memories are going to come back now she’s a vampire. She’ll remember EVERYTHING that Damon made her forget. So suddenly she has more information, will remember meeting him first, remember the kiss he gave her and telling her he loved her. She’s going to see a new part of Damon, and it’s going to change how she feels about him.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MAKE IT STOP

    (via thedisorderly)

#lol #this makes. not a bit of sense. #elena has been fully aware of damon’s slavish love for her for more than a season. so. #so what. #there’s a reason why a love triangle is actually not a compelling foundational THING for a narrative. #only here to see what this will do for elena’s narrative.

^Mag’s tags yo. Except this love triangle bullshattery has made my patience run thin. I can not. At least make it a love octagon so bastards don’t know what to ship and heavily plot driven so that shipping wouldn’t be an issue. But alas. It wouldn’t be TVD now would it. As for Season 4 and me being invested in it?

I haven’t watched yet… Elena turns into a vampire??!! Something she has adamantly never wanted? Wonderful. Also: “This is actually where the REAL love triangle begins” lol what no. omg i can’t. The triangle is already SO EFFING TIRED AND BORING and now they’re trying to say this is where it ~really starts? Make it stop.
